The Homestretch
Two weeks until publication
It’s now two weeks until Moses and the Doctor will be on sale. I started working on this book so long ago that I hadn’t even met my wife yet. I’ve moved three times since then. Heck, I don’t even live in the same state that I started the book in. I began my research in a two-room rental in Astoria and finished reviewing the copyedits in a townhouse in New Jersey that I own (and in which a baby lives). So much has happened that it’s hard to fathom that only four years have passed since I came up with the idea.
Anyway, soon the book will be out of my hands and into the readers’. Before then, I have three things that I would humbly ask. First, if you have any basketball fans in your life—or know of any Philadelphians—please spread the word to them. This book, like my previous one, Our Team, will live or die by word of mouth.
Second, consider preordering a copy either for yourself or that friend who might be interested in the subject matter. Here’s my suggestion: Order it through my favorite local bookstore, Astoria Bookshop. If you do so, it will come signed and accompanied with custom-made basketball cards of Julius “Dr. J” Erving and Moses Malone. Here’s where you can get those both:
Finally, if you happen to be in Philadelphia or New York City—or know of someone who is and might be interested—I’ll be doing events in both cities. On February 10th, the day the book goes on sale, I’ll be in discussion with Bradford Pearson, the executive editor of Philadelphia Magazine, at the Barnes & Noble in downtown Philadelphia, right off Rittenhouse Square. Get tickets here:
On February 12th, I’ll be at DSK Brooklyn for a show entitled Squawkin’ Sports. It’ll be me and Yaron Weitzman, who wrote a killer book (Hollywood Ending) on the Los Angeles Lakers during the ongoing LeBron James era. We’ll be interviewed by Patrick Sauer and David Roth of Defector. Come, grab a beer, and listen to us squawk.

And if you do get the book and end up reading it, don’t be shy in letting me know what you think. I always love hearing from readers.

Awesome. Exciting! Enjoy it, or something (it's all very strange, isn't it?).
You had me at basketball cards, and only $5 for Media Mail.
